OUR

HISTORY

Spokane_Airport_(Felts_Field)_1934

Felts Field began as Parkwater Airstrip in 1920. Renamed in 1927 after the famous aviator James Buell Felts, the airport has witnessed many historic events including Charles Lindbergh’s visit in 1927 and Nick Mamer’s endurance flight in 1929. Considered the birthplace of airmail service in 1929 and passenger service in the early 1930s, Felts Field played a critical role in the evolution of civil aviation.

Despite wartime changes and the shift of some aircraft to Geiger Field (n/k/a Spokane International Airport), Felts Field remains a vibrant hub featuring charter services, flight instruction, and restoration of vintage aircraft. Be part of our history by enjoying Runway 4 Events Center.

Facility

A “plane guy,” John has flown over 1,500 hours as pilot-in-command of WWII combat aircraft. He makes available to Runway 4 clients, his vintage aviation artifacts and restoration hangar within the Felts Field Historic District.
